About Me...

Hi welcome to Musicbrick.com, I'm a painter and decorator in my day job and the bloke who thought of Musicbrick.com.. just me, no big organisation just a guy with a passion for music and a blind faith in an idea, hope you can enjoy every second here.. I grew up in Liverpool during the 70s and 80s in a very normal childhood; with Tonka toys, Chopper bikes, 23 a side games of football that never ended, Meccano, Scaeletcrix, Buckaroo, games of Monopoly that lasted for three days, penny shrimps, fruit salads and space dust. ‘Loosies’ (which was being able to buy one or two cigarettes, at a time, from a local newsagent, even if you were in your school uniform; a few years back now of course) and a top thirty record chart that contained punk, disco, country, heavy rock, love songs, new wave, a capella, folk, new romantic…. the list has no bottom and yet they were all there together at the same time.

Music Tastes...

Kings of Leon, Annie lennox, White Stripes, Kate Earl, Tori Amos, Nina Simone, Beth Hart, and my dads back catalogue of blues and rock and roll

First ever record/cd you remember listening to...

I remember the words, it went; on the banks of the river, stands a ?lovely? indian brave, on the other side of the river.... and so on

First ever record/cd you remember buying...

The Police Can't stand Losing you on blue vinyl

Best live performance you’ve seen...

Nina Simone, seen her in concert in the Liverpool Philarmonic, she was fiesty and staggering in equal portions. Live8 where Robbie Williams was just amazing

Favourite radio stations...

BBC6.co.uk Radio 3 in Spain; because again they're not scared to play anything and they probably do more for new English music than all the radio stations in Britian and Spectrum Fm. Costa Calida Radio in Mazarron... just superb!

Favourite music magazines and papers...

Mojo, Uncut

Worst song ever...

Splodgenessabounds; two pits of lager and a packet of crisp

Hi Martin, Just realised i'd left a comment on one of your music bricks when i wanted to just drop a message on your homepage and say HI!!!!

Left by Geoff Blain on 16/06/2008 20:52:40

I love this site Martin. i keep on finding myself on here adding to my collection of favorite songs, i feel ive got a life long story of musical influences to share and this is the place to do it.

Thanks for the links to those songs, they're all very cool!

And I see two things on your profile that I like The White Stripes and mentions of coloured vinyl! A fantastic combination I do believe.

Left by Jimi Mitchell on 23/07/2008 22:57:51

hey martin!

thanks for the message and posting the video. i can now sleep safe knowing that the song is that little bit more 'out there' so to speak.

if cherokee took ur fancy, you should seriously check out her travelogue album that my music brick is from. honestly like nothing else i've heard before. she now sings a lot of her old songs with a full orchestra behind her. cherokee is definitely a standout on the album as well. her voice has aged beautifully i think.

i'm also sitting here in a state of jealousy at the fact you've seen nina simone. there are no words to describe it!

so i'll leave my state of speechlessness at that!

thanks again man, and my goodness what a smashing site you've created :)

Thanks for running Musicbrick, Martin. It's a first class site and it's easy to see that you're a guy with a true love of music. Love the site and also love what you do for Manchester Children's Hospital. By the way, the line of lyrics you put up for the first record you ever listened to was bugging me for ages, but I got there in the end. The song was called "Running Bear", right..? Hey, I'm slow, but I get there in the end. LOL.

Regards
