First ever record/cd you remember listening to...
NAT KING COLE'S "UNFORGETABLE"
I remember sitting in the Tunnel picture house in Tunnel road off Wavertree road, and (in those early days you nearly always had a double feature} I must have been around 14yrs old ( circa 1951) they played as I say during the interval any popular record of the day etc, then i heard a wonderful sound of what i deemed the perfect voice, I was completely captivated, I'd lost my father at the age of 5yrs so I nrushed home to tell my mam, what a wonderful song I 'd just heard, it was then I was informed of his name...............NAT KING COLE
First ever record/cd you remember buying...
On leaving the army in 1958, I purchased ELVIS PRESLEY'S first UK album, it cost around 30 shillings ( £1.50) the reason it was my first record at the age of 22yrs, is simple prior to entering the forces in 1955, (conscription} although I did sign on for an extra year to send home money to my mam!......we didn't have any money, we had a house with gas lighting only so my musical knowledge etc was gleaned through radio, and friends who had moved into new "Prefabs" who had more money than my family and could afford the latest gramaphones!!
Best live performance you’ve seen...
Seeing Frankie Laine at the Liverpool Empire I was around 14/15 yrs old, he was fantastic with such a powerful voice, i was bathed in sweat through the excitement , he generated, his style created the pathway for a new era, soon to follow, he was my favourite ballard singer, alas he has now left us, but his music lives on!!!
